Fishing Tackle Shopping
If tackle shops are your thing, I know all the best retailers and can get you some great deals. Malaysian prices are highly competitive and you're bound to find some novel items that you'll never find elsewhere and may never use but if you're a tackle junkie like me, you'll want to buy them anyway!
Fishing aside, birdwatching in Malaysia is world class and Borneo is its jewel as we have more endemic species of birds on this third largest island in the world than possibly any other island on earth, approximately 50 and counting.
Locations are numerous offering a wide variety of habitats from shoreline to montane and everything in between. I consider myself an avid ornithologist with a good working knowledge of the local fauna particularly birds. Feel free to call me if you're in this area and I'd be happy to accompany you on a personally tailored birdwatching fieldtrip.
Nature tours are also a big thing in Sabah as we are renowned for Orangutans, Proboscis Monkeys, Pygmy Elephants (recently recognised separate species), Hornbills, Sumatran Rhinoceros, Sun Bears, Pangolin, Tarsier, Slow Loris, Flying Squirrels and Clouded Leopard amongst others. I could take you to the various hotspots myself or put you in touch with the right people.
You might even want to do things like climbing Mt. Kinabalu (4101m), island hopping, snorkeling, diving, white water rafting, cave exploring, jungle trekking etc., all of which can be easily arranged.
Sabah also has a great shopping culture as testified by the countless number of shopping malls mushrooming around the city. Other things we could do are visits to museums, bookshops, wet markets, Sunday street markets, night markets and so on, depending on your interests.
